The U.S. Department of State has recently announced that the online registration period for the Diversity Visa Lottery Program for Fiscal Year 2012 (DV-2012) will be from October 5, 2010 until November 3, 2010.
The official online application form is available only on the Department of State Diversity Visa online entry website at www.dvlottery.state.gov (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/www.dvlottery.state.gov), which will be accessible on the first day of the registration period. The Congressionally mandated Diversity Immigrant Visa Program makes available 50,000 diversity visas (DV) annually, drawn from random selection among all entries to persons who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. For DV-2012, no countries have been added or removed from the previous years list of eligible countries.
If you are chosen as a lottery winner, an official letter from the U.S. Department of State Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) in Williamsburg, Kentucky will be sent to the mailing address that you provided in your entry. Being selected as a lottery winner does not guarantee that you will receive a visa; you must still apply and qualify for the immigrant visa. The notification letters will provide further instructions, including information on additional forms and documentation required and immigrant visa application fees.

Guess its easier.. and then they give negative reps instead of answers... Anyway.. Seems IV is losing focus and with this attitude of majority.. many more will go away...
I'll request all contributors to feel proud but don't boast all the time of your contributions and expect contributions from the others rather than questions...
I expect more negative.. as this is the latest trend in IV.. Anyway... where there is a will.. there is a way.. So I'll find my answer :-) and will continue answering folks who need... People will contribute at their pace and in the manner they feel good... You just can't force them... without being an example...

Hello Folks,
I am on H1-B and have an EAD. My Dad is a builder in Hyderabad and I want to promote the apartments in US. Can I rent an office space and just do marketing without registering a business? All sales will be completed in India.
Thanks for your advice,
Ramki
Notwithstanding the advice you get here, you should contact an attorney for legal advice. Don't act on the information you get here. You don't want to jeopardize you immigration status.

As you can see in my profile, my I-140 is approved and i'm waiting to file for I-485. I just went through a position change within my company via the company lawyer. The way the lawyer explained to me was that he did file a new H1-B petition for the new job and also i did receive my I797-A action notice from USCIS.
The lawyer had to file a new petition (I-129) based upon my approved I-140 and the most importatn action during this process was to phrase the job description in a way that the new job description was more than 90 percent the same as the I-140.
Moreover, the thing i'm nervous about is that no AC-21 was filed in my case. The lawyer did mention that there is no need to file AC-21 as i have not reached into the I-485 stage and that AC-21 is only applicable after the fact that I-485 has been filed.
Hopefully, my experience clears a few things for your case. You can PM in case you want additional details.

Hi, I am currently on my 5th year H-1B visa. I have an option to stay with the same firm and they will help me apply greencard. But I am also considering an opportunity in Bermuda for a 2-3 year program (with the same firm).
My question is if I come back to the US after 2 years, will I be able to apply H-1B visa again? Will it be a whole new H-1B petition/application process subject to the H-1B cap?
Or will it be just another H-1B renewal process following my previous two terms?
Do I need to wait for another two terms of H-1B to expire before starting the greencard process?
Can I ask my currently employer to apply for greencard concurrently while I am working outside the US?
Thanks,
E

Dear Fellow Posters
After 12 months of toil I have finally completed the narrative and evidence that I need for an EB-1a (Extraordinary Alien) application. I ab about to complete the I-140 paperwork to go with it.
My questions is this - I have contacted a small number of Immigration attorneys who have quoted me approx $6000 for the whole process. How many of you value think that USCIS would look at my application more favourably if I used a reputed attorney rathen than putting in my own application and paperwork ?
Thanks in anticpation of your replies
Jon
USCIS will be interested in the content of the application rather than the reputation of the attorney submitting it. You are free to submit your own application if you are comfortable researching immigration laws required for your application.

Does the "Receipt Rule" apply if an approved EAD is lost in email and a replacement EAD is applied for. The documentation mentions that it is valid to accept the EAD receipt for upto 90 days after joining date or for 90 days after reverification(which I presume happens after the current EAD expires)

Hi,
On the USCIS website, it mentioned "normal processing time" in the following statement. I am wondering what is the normal processing time for I-485. I can't find it. When the published processing time is current for a case, how long it will take for a case to be approved?
My case suddenly becomes current for a month with the sudden forward movement of the processing time. I am wondering how long should I wait before I contact USCIS about my case if I do not hear anything from them.
When is name check initiated? When the case is received or when the case processing time becomes current?
Thanks!
---------From USCIS website---------
The processing times that we publish let you estimate how long it will take us to process cases filed before yours, and then process your case. However, every case is different and sometimes an individual case can take longer than average.
If you don't hear from us within the normal processing time, check for updated processing times on our website. If your case has a receipt number, use it to check on the status of your case at the same time. We recommend this action on your part because our notice may be on its way to you.
If at any point your case should become more than 30 days outside our normal processing time, and you haven't received a written decision or update from us within the last 60 days, you can help us by calling customer service and letting us know. We will research your case, see what needs to be done to get it processed, and get back to you with an explanation.

Update on my case, as mentioned above -
I got the H-1B transfer approval along with I-94. I hope this information helps someone in a similar situation.
