Looking at numbers alone, you will be paying more for an apple laptop then a dell, hp, asus etc. Its called the apple tax

I haven't used it yet either, but I plan on giving it a go for my first newsletter for my burgeoning photo biz.
I have played around with it a bit, but really can't comment yet.
I like Word for one thing: typing. I'm a writer (not trying to sound egotistical) and I hate it when an application tries to tell me how do do something TOTALLY WRONG. (And yes, I know I can turn that off.)

Can't believe aperture doesn't support more RAW types yet.

From memory Snow Leopard Samba runs a modified version of 3.0 Samba, however versions 3.3 and 3.4 of Samba Windows 7 *can* authenticate against(+). If the version of Samba in Lion is 3.3 or higher then it might be possible to get Windows 7 computers to authenticate against OSX Lion server...
(+) Although a registry patch is required on the Win7 machines to enable certain legacy support.
I beleive the command is "smbd -V" in terminal on the server if someone feels like trying it...

Having two different colors means nothing, but now you're dealing with two different thicknesses, plus two different button layouts, meaning a total of 4 DIFFERENT versions of supposedly the same phone, all requiring their own slightly varied case (seeing how a lot of cases designed for the black iPhone 4 will not fit the thicker white models - and how some need to be changed for CDMA and GSM versions).
If a QC issue is getting out this much, then it must be one hell of a QC issue.

This is not surprising. All the Chinese resellers who were buying iPads in NYC are unlikely to buy the Verizon CDMA, because it cannot be used abroad. The GSM version (i.e. the ATT version) is one that can be used in most places abroad, as long as the iPad is unlocked.
Wrong, China has CDMA. Same CDMA we have. (they also have another proprietary form of CDMA as well)
However, the scalpers I've seen don't seem to be sending them to China.

how does it confirm that ??? apple has previewed things in April, but showcased the whole thing in June in the past.. and this is an announcement for the Showcase.

I know there's no real estate for it, but I wouldn't complain it if had a dedicated Ethernet port.
They could very easily do it like the VAIO X-

Works well on my X128. (that thing is as thin and way lighter than the Air btw so don't say it isn't possible because it's heavier or thicker or anything)

Hmm... I've held off on buying both a new phone and a new iPod for a while now, assuming that I'd want whatever phone Apple eventually comes out with, but the mention of battery life issues concerns me. If the battery goes dead on my iPod, no big deal, I don't listen to music until I charge it again. But if the battery goes dead on my phone, I could miss an important call. And if I have to monitor how much music I listen to to ensure that I can still receive calls, that might be a problem. Ideally, they could address this concern by having some software that told you well in advance that if you stop listening to music now, you still have so much time left on your phone.
No offense, but how many cell phone calls are really that important? None, given all the ones I overhear on a daily basis. :D
I could see a nifty little battery app on an iPod/iPhone device. Turn off music player when battery reaches x% or something like that.

because it's turned on by default. it should be off by default (IMO) and then turned on as an option. many people aren't aware that Facebook's new "features" are almost always on when rolled out.
Can anyone confirm this? It's so annoying when new features are turned on by default. I guess I just need to delete my account. I have a fb, but never check it, but I keep it around just because I get an email if somebody sends me a message on there and then I contact them back. Facebook is just awful, worst mistake signing up for it. If you don't have one DON'T GET ONE!!

Yet these are the machines of choice when price is no object and the job must get done. Just think about this: these boards are filled with laments that effectively tell you that you need substaintially higher clock speeds to run a computer game than you need to simulate the gas flow in a jet engine. Don't you think that something is just a bit warped here?
I guess what really blows me away is that Apple appears to be *purposely* cripppling their systems. From what I understand it's possible for Apple to upgrade the processor, bus, memory and other components without any technical difficulties.

No company would purposely cripple its central product. The fact that Apple is only one of two profitable personal computer manufacturers serve as loud testimony to the contrary. Okay, you can flame away now -- but all I'm saying is there are a lot of potential switchers waiting to plunk down their hard earned cash if Apple would get it together. I see more and more Apple folks waking up, no longer satisfied to let Apple off the hook for getting further and further behind the rest of the computer world.

For many years, Apple has ranked among the highest quality hardware manufactures. I am not just talking about microprocessors. I've endured conditions that put Dells out to pasture while my Mac chugged along like a champ.

you know what. If Apple would finally give up ther Megaherz Myth and equal up the numbers that PCs have, then dummies out there would understand the need of a mac. So far the service, the own apps and etc is amazing. But what does it matter if my mom would never get it?

i agree on the sandy bridge sd, i too believe they will wait until ivy bridge, it simply makes no sense to screw up a perfectly spectacular machine, as well as sales and profits, just to move on from the c2d. Cool:
