I actually think the numbers will be smaller because even if people say they will leave now, when it comes time to actually do it....only a portion will actually follow through.

That's a good point. Leave it to people to actually do the things they say they're going to do... but that's a different topic for a whole different forum.

I am more curious how the labels are going to try to renegotiate contracts with Apple once Steve moves on.

I am not too sure Tim Cook or anyone of his pay grade is as tough as Steve is when it comes to these label execs.

Apple comes to the table with a well thought-out plan that includes objectives, time lines and incentives for the other party. They are not just being tough, they are looking at the proposal from both sides offering a win-win.

The record labels are greedy and Apple knows how to feed the greed by offering the record companies an additional source of revenue with the needed safeguards to quell the label's fears.

While Steve may be in on the big picture and will make cameo appearances during the negotiations, he's not the lead negotiator.

Apple is so successful because they are not focused on making their share holder happy for the immediate quarter. They are focused on long term success, so they can take their time during negotiations, can buy companies long before it's apparent what they will do with them. By the time they tip their hand it's too late for potential competitors to jump or board before the train leaves the station.

I wouldn't worry about Apple without Jobs, he has put together a lean and efficient corporate culture that can go operate long and profitably without him.

It's quite simple. AMD bought ATI. If Apple wants to use ATI GPUs in their computer, then I guess they have to talk to AMD now (at least for pricing, orders, etc). That sounds much more likely.

Whatever, he is a no talent hack, and a dumbass.

"AIDS is a man-made disease in the first place, that was placed in Africa just like crack was placed in the black community to break up the Black Panther party."

He also criticised politicians for "riding home in their Benzs and Bentleys while poor Africans starve".

    I wonder what he drives......

People seem to be more interested in convenience than the highest possible quality.

    Yes, it's appalling.. ;)

Oh, well, every time I hear someone say they can't see the difference between a standard DVD and an HD-DVD/BluRay disc when shown on a proper 1080p display, I cringe. Perhaps they need to just buy the 25" TV for $200 along with a $25 DVD player, take the money they save and get some laser eye surgery. :D

Actually, with my new HD set up, most family and friends that see it in action are usually awed by it. I have several friends and neighbors that continuously invite themselves over for monday night football and other events. Most of them think it's pretty cool, but would never spend that kind of money on their home theatre setup (I don't think I spent that much, the TV accounted for over half of everything and it was $3600). A couple of them in the past few months though didn't balk at the price and they went and bought one too...

But yeah, I'm an "-ophile" when it comes to audio and video. I don't really fit in with the rest of my family. I have an uncle that's only about 10 years older than me and I let him have a left-over 20" TV when I moved. I told him it's a nice set - only about 3 years old. His only concern was "is it color?".

I know I'm the minority around here when I say this, but I don't own an iPod. Yeah, it's true... I personally don't care for the MP3 format and the lesser quality offerings of iTunes. If it isn't at least CD quality, uncompressed, I don't want it. And yes, I can hear the difference on my sound system which is a separate setup from my home theatre.

My wife tells me that I'm insane... She's probably right, but what do I care. :D

This is just one more reason why socialism doesn't work. It takes away the incentive of a company to put a product in the country, and the consumers ultimately suffer.

    LOL.

    Nice troll.

Just like switching between tabs using ctrl-tab in Safari and other web browsers I think it would be good to be able to switch between subpanes using the same keyboard shortcut.

What do you think about that?

Eventually it just has to be called "iPhone". No numbers, and certainly no asinine feature indicators. Internally it will be "iPhone (nth generation)", and the previous model on sale for $99 (or $49) will be "iPhone (previous generation)", just like iPods. Same goes for the iPad. Seriously, 10 years from now what are they going to call it... the iPhone 14s? This makes sense how?

Please read my post again. Never did I say I was laughing at "you all" but rather the post "buddy". Hope I didn't touch a nerve.

    Also who are you quoting?

    Actually, you said:

Obviously the OP was wrong with what he did but love laughing at all the holier than thou responses.

Sorry, but that's the same at laughing at the people, ie, a form of being "Holier than thou." After all, what did your post add to this discussion except to say that you think you're above the comments being posted.

Nice try at excusing yourself though, "buddy".

I accidentally just went on BBC News... spoilt one surprise for myself :(

Yeah, i don't think the internet is a safe place until after weve seen the QT vid ourselves.

Meanwhile, the whole world is going nuts about a 300Gb iPod with built in Sat-Nav and Intel Quad-Core processors and we're sitting here nervously going at the alcohol, refusing to be tempted.

    I love every minute :D

    MA.

Oh, and in reply to the guy who is going to give up at 8, please don't put spoilers on here if you do take a look. That would not make me happy after all this waiting! :)

Isn't it interesting how a seemingly intentional act (active user tracking) changes to a "bug" once it's existence is published in the news media? :D
i love your post, we are in trouble if this was not intentional, security issues for sure haha

I still think OS X peaked from an aesthetic and reliability standpoint with Panther. They've added more capabilities of course, but I'm always noticing fresh things missing with each release, and what with the interface becoming progressively duller and dingier....

That said, if OS X goes away, I'll simply stop using a computer. The alternatives aren't worth the suffering.

Come on Open GL 3... come to daddy.

I don't understand why people are panicking about the iPad thing. The iPad has some nice features people enjoyed so they are bringing it to the desktop. Its not like you have to USE those features but if it makes computing more enjoyable why not use it?

It'll be nice for those of us who do real work on our computers all day long to have some of these conveniences. For some reason though whenever Apple simplifies something people start crying "Apple doesn't care about the pro users anymore!" (Even though in reality of the person were truly a "pro user" they would welcome anything that helps them get their job done more efficiently).
