My advice:
1. Keep your cool.
2. Get rid of that lady.
3. Whatever beating/scolding she has done to your child, it is past. Children are much resilient and recover easily and faster than we adults in case of physical and mental suppression.
4. See, if your parents can come for few months to support you.
5. Send your child to a good day care or hire a recommended nanny from a referral.
Not all nannies are bad. And next time, hire a nanny in a legal manner.

Instead of approving applicants who applied in 2004 and 2005, USCIS approved applicants from 2006. Where is the justice in that??? Why bother publishing the cut-off date if approvals are to be randomly allocated???
We understand we have to stand in line and wait our turn. Each applicant is assigned a priority date which chronologically determines his/her turn for approval. To further complicate matters, once the I-485 is filed, a crop of other dates are issued by the USCIS � a receipt date, a notice date and a processing date. USCIS then takes the liberty to throw random rules at us � �Case adjudication is based on receipt date� �No, we process applications based on notice date�, �Actually, it�s the processing date that determines which applications are adjusted.� !!!
Please take a moment to consider how these conflicting statements and arbitrary decisions wreak havoc on our morale and psyches? No one, NOT even the USCIS, has a clue as to what exactly is happening in their processing centers. The USCIS has never been able to clearly state the exact number of applications languishing, excuse us, we meant pending, in their �service� centers! We, employment-based immigrants, are tax-paying, law-abiding, educated individuals contributing to America�s knowledge economy - yet we have been subjected to the worst aspects of the US employment-based immigration system. These include:
1) Extended wait times at each step of the immigration process.
2) Lack of transparency on the part of USCIS (re: priority date, receipt date, notice date).
3) Lack of USCIS customer service � once applications are submitted to USCIS they disappear into a black hole. Barring a website where one can nominally check one�s case status (but which in reality remains static for months, even years!) there is no concept of updating an applicant on where his case stands. And this is despite the applicant paying immigration fees that often run into thousands of dollars over the years. We are simply expected to wait in a complete void of information, for however long it may take, until approval.
4) Lost opportunities owing to the lack of job portability during the process (a time period spanning an average of five years, whereas an applicant from any country besides India gets his/her PR card in under two years).
Another inconsistency, surfacing in August 2008, begs redressal � while I-485 applicants (albeit those from 2006 instead instead of earlier years) at the TSC were being approved in a steady stream, the NSC was almost completely inactive resulting in only a very few cases being approved prior to August 20th. After this date, the NSC appeared to completely hold off on all I-485 approvals while approvals continued at the TSC. Could somebody please account for this preferential treatment for I-485 applicants at the TSC versus those at the NSC? Furthermore, when complaint faxes were sent in to the NSC in protest, instead of issuing a formal statement to explain their approach, the NSC retaliated by issuing a bunch of RFEs. Is the USCIS trying to intimidate us so that we remain quiescent??
While we are grateful for the opportunity to partake in the American dream, it is ironic that we arrive in America and find that our freedom is shackled � we are bound to our sponsoring employer from the start to the end of an extremely lengthy process. Although legal immigration reform is our ongoing aim, for now, we sincerely request you to investigate the process whereby the monthly visa bulletin is set and to ensure FIFO (first in, first out) adjustment so that those of us who have been waiting longer receive attention prior to those who have applied later. We want USCIS to be accountable to us, its paying customers.
We request you to lend us your ear and address these issues so that we are not subjected to them in the future. Kindly note that there remain roughly 15 days until the October 2008 visa bulletin goes into affect. Once October arrives, the dates for Indian EB2 candidates retrogress to 2003. We believe you have the power to help a few more of us who have been waiting, seemingly endlessly, to get out of this immigration limbo.

On a positive note, the best that we can do is, learn from our surroundings. We can learn a lot from Republicans to understand what not to do.
One of the main reason why Obama enjoys high rating - Republican party sucks. Who is making Republican party look bad - Republicans. The best response to Obama is not to pitch twisted Jindal against Obama, because that just makes Obama look good and it help Democrats. The better response to Obama is, let Obama respond against Obama. So simply don't respond to Obama, which will prevent Republicans making him look good. And like every politician, Obama will commit mistakes, which will cause the demise of Democrats. Its that simple. So what do we learn from this?

Obama enjoys a high rating because of the cyclical nature of US political landscape. To understand the current political situation, a trip down history lane is important. Historically for the last 300 odd years, the country has two broad sections, believing in almost diametrically opposite philosophies. Federalists and Democratic-Republicans. Federalists believed in a strong central government whereas the Republicans believe in more power to the people and believed in self-regulation. Over the years, the tone/tenor of these parties have changed but the core beliefs have remained the same. Liberal Vs Conservatism, Tax cuts Vs Spending, Giving benefits to the comman man Vs giving benefits to small busineses who in turn will help the common man.
Obama's future success lies in how much he can pull the democratic agenda of 'helping 95 % of people who are middle class', building educational infrastructure, taxing businesses while spending to help the 'common' man, reforming healthcare while keeping deficit within acceptable limits ($500 billion maybe perfectly acceptable). A certain section of the republican party (read Bush+Cheney and gang) caused the republicans to take huge losses and gave Obama the boost. Tomorrow it can be Reid+Pelosi+Clinton who can cause the downfall of the democrats by over-doing the 'welfare' agenda. Thus I called it cyclical.

I have a problem where my "Given Name" is entered as "<first name> <last name>" in my passport (India). The "Surname" is left blank. I have been in the US for 7 years now and it has never been a problem so far. I usually enter the "<last name>" in the last name column on all documents. I wonder if this will cause problems during the I485 name check stage. Any one here who can throw some light on this issue?
I realize that the question is a little weird, I appreciate any response.

I had the same issue and I got it changed from Indian consulate NY. The whole process took around a week. You need to advertise in local newspapers which is not a big deal. Around Rs 200 in indian newpaper and $70 in US newspaper (Classified section).

All people affected by USCIS blocking approvals for current people, lets get organized.
This time USCIS is hiding by not making official announcements.
We need to act as we did last July.
Lets send letters to congressman like zoe lofgren.
NSC is issuing frivolous RFEs as delaying tactics.
I am not seeing similar outrage as we saw last year.
The time to act is now.

Plainspeak says.."As far as i know the whole MS F1 visa is a big scam and loophole to enter us and stay here when you are not supposed to and that is the loophole that needs to be closed first instesad of worrying about fruad porting and EB1 fraud. F1 is not a scam. its legal visa. once u enter into usa on F1, u can stay here to study. while doing MS, u can also work on CPT legally. after completion of the MS degree, it is legal to stay on OPT and work. recently the US govt has increased the OPT period from 12 to 29 months. again its legal. its legal to apply for H1B while maintaining a proper F1 status or OPT.
People who dont like this.... dont either because they dont understand F1 very well, or just plainly speaking jealous or out of their mind.
i guess we should be happy if someone is making progress legally even if we are not in the same boat.:)

Why does it have to be only STEM graduates which will not need employer sponsership. If giving GC based on completion of MS in us is bypassing the employee sponserhsip then that has to be extended to all EB categories of immigrants (EB1/EB2/EB3) and the benefit o those visas have to be passed to the badly retrogressed category first.

My minor daughter's Last name was missing in her passport but all her immigration documents (I-94/H4/AOS- r. n/ EAD/SSN, yes she got ead for ssn but never used it till date) somehow had her first name + LAST NAME. We initially ignored her missing last name in the passport but during her AOS finger priniting, asc guy noticed missing last name, made a noting in their system as "LNU" and advised us to get it fixed. We went to Indian consulate, Chicago and got the last name entered in passport, after due paper formalities.
My question to you guys is: Do we need to do anything else with respect to her AOS as all her uscis documents including I-94/H4/EAD/ssn, are already wth first name + last name ?
Any suggestions on this sitution will be appreciated !

It`s great news for all the people who can file & who have already filed on july2nd.
Thanks IV for being so persistant. You guys have my support.
Not to undermine the current development , it is good news for tons of people including me, but the true victory will be when retrogression ends & all the backlog centers are cleared. All skilled workers (& sometimes their stay at home spouses)don`t have to wait for yearsssssss to get a GC.
& no before I get brickbats thrown at me I am not being pessimistic or a spoilt sport, I just feel that this gc mess should stop & skilled ppl shouldn`t be harressed by having to put their lives on hold for such long periods.

Hi All,
I recently had my last name added on my Passport. I just submitted for updating the SSN. Couple of questions:
1. Does anybody know if I need to run the payroll and also file the taxes with new name on the SSN once it's been updated. I still need to file my 2009 taxes.
2. Do I need to inform USCIS about this or it should be OK if I just submit the new name on I-129 when I apply for renewal later this year.
3. I maintain H1B expiring Sept 2010. I might need to travel to India before expiration with the current visa. Do I need to do anything to avoid name confusion at POE?
Please share your experience. Appreciate your time.

I was discussing with another member about contribution.
We have around 7K + members and there are more joining so if we all go on a contribution of $20/member marathon with the target date as Jan 2, imagine the financial support core team would have to approach QGA for lobbying efforts. Congress's decision in Januray or February seems to be our best shot for relief with all problems.
So, let's do it, its just $20 before Jan.2 ! Please contribute,

Signs of a maturing organization and community....
It's always best to put oneself in the other person's shoes and see their point of view, if they have one.
Having said that, I would urge IV members to not respond to such comments with inappropriate language or responses. Remember, this is an organization of "high-skilled professionals", and act like one.

he is just expressing concern that more action is not taken. i wrote param a pm to explain, also this thread will not continue indefinitely. we do however need to be clear in our stand and in our actions. we should be able to enunciate what we believe without resorting to the kind of vitriol that is thrown at us. personally i am waiting to see that- it's important even to grow as a community and achieve success that we develop this ability. our strength lies in the facts not in any hate or rhetoric.
be rest assured that ip's of those that post such stuff are tracked for action.
