Hi,
I stumbled across this thread and this seems to be a great initiative that is managed professionally.
I browsed though the IV website and forums and have few questions regarding who IV is representing among the employment based immigrants:
1. I've a 3 yrs baccalaureate degree from India and have filed GC in EB3 category. How do IV initiatives helps me?
2. My friend have 4yr engineering degree from India and have filed GC in EB3 category. How do IV initiatives helps him?
3. My boss has Masters Degree from India and has 10 yr of experience. He filed his GC in EB2 category. Is IV for him?
4. One of my colleagues has just graduated from an US university and he filed his GC this year in EB3 category. Is IV for him?
5. My other colleague has completed his MS from an US university and he filed his GC in EB2 category. IS IV for him?
I would appreciate if someone can answer the above questions.

IV core team itself is not active these day.
Read my other post about what IV core is doing currently. Also, just FYI, we had a conference call last nite which went form 9.00 PM to 11.15 PM EST. And this was not the only call this week.
We have already started looking beyond the CIR and so has QGA. Aman and Shilpa went to an important House Related event in DC and met with some of the house representatives (in person) whose names you see in immigration articles every single day!
So, in a nutshell, I am happy to see the initiative by Ghost to take IV further. Please support him instead of trying negate it!
Do not forget that the only other option to fighting for our rights is to keep quiet and suffer daily for years. There is not a single person in the core team and nor many members in IV who are willing to give up before a good fight.

I was told by my attorneys para leagal (so who knows if this is true or not....) that the ITIN number is the same number that will be issued in the form of ssn.

The information quoted by morpheus is quite correct. you can attend board meetings as a director although honorory or because of your extensive shareholding. you cannot be a salaried, contracted or basically compensated director or board member. you cannot take salaries but can take dividends (profit). you can also apply for any licenses or authorizations required for the business in your name. just make sure you dont write anything off in your name to save the taxes on the dividends because that will show your active involvement (day to day) which you cannot have.
I owned business and had state and federal licenses when I was on F-1.
And very frankly if you have any innovative ideas are an entrepreneur immigration and visa is the last thing you should worry about. There are many ways to to that and if you have a trustworthy citizen or GC holder as a partner it is very easy. just concentrate on your ideas and plans. contact a lawyer, do some reading of IRS pubs, and immigration law.

My immigration attorney has advised me I can invest in and own anything - LLC, C Corp - as long as I don't take an active role in the business. Once you become active, you need an employment visa e.g. H1 to cover that. Since moving to the US I have owned and/or founded a couple of companies. I filed a visa so I could actively manage one of them. The others I am just a passive investor. One interesting question is can you attend a board meeting and still be a passive investor? Personally I think so, because board membership is not employment. Some may prefer to err on the conservative side.
Income from activites like Google Adsense or royalties is a grey area. It would make an interesting case, because it's very hard for the USCIS to say it is 'employment' rather than passive income. Any legal advice in this area is just an opinion. According to my attorney, there are no USCIS memoranda or case law on the subject.

I am confused. I have I 140 approval copy but it does not have A# in it. I know lots of people who have approved I 140 and they have A# in it. Please let me know what should I do in this case?

Nice job Anders. 2,3,4 and 5 are the best of these I believe. You're exactly right about practice. The more you shoot the better you will get, as you are demonstrating. Patience and alertness are the key as well. When you can't control what's happening, you have to anticipate, and be alert to catch in when it happens. Shooting from the penalty box allows from some great shots. Be alert in there though. The first time I did that a puck whistled by myhead. Thank goodness I ducked and moved my head. Water from the ice was literally on my ear and the puck hit behind me. I would have hit me square in the head.

Your Lawyer is correct:
As you left your employer in less than 180days from filing 485, you can not invoke AC21.
The only way for you to save this GC is to have intention (both, you and your employer) to have permanent job after GC and you and your employer should be able to confirm that in the event of an RFE.
Furthermore, if there is no RFE and your employer does note revoke I 140; and your GC get approved; you will have to start working with your employer (duration of such employment is never clarified in law; search the forum for details). If you dont do so, you may have trouble later on (CIS can revoke GC or you can be denied citizenship with revocation of GC several years later...).
Therefore, it may be a good idea to start another GC ASAP (if your current employer really does not want to hire you once GC is approved) and have another status as a backup to fall on to just in case your employer revokes I 140 (which he ideally should if he is not intending to hire you after the GC is approved).

Here's our situation:
Both of our GC applications were filed in EB3 categories, by our individual employers, independent of each other.
My priority date is Apr 2002. My 140 is approved and 485 was filed in 2007 and is currently pending.
My husband's 140 is also approved and 485 was filed back in 2005. His priority date is Sep 2003.
Is there any way now to link both our applications, so he can take advantage of my earlier priority date without him having to withdraw his 485 application?
Both of our GC applications were filed in EB3 categories, by our individual employers, independent of each other.

Report indicates that Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Rep. Nydia Velasquez (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) will meet with President Barack Obama this afternoon to talk about the chances of getting comprehensive immigration reform or the DREAM Act passed in the lame duck session, signaling the Democrats, Hispanics, and Obama turning their posture in CIR or DREAM from "defensive" to "offensive" strategy, by going forward with the all-court pressing DREAM or CIR during the Lame Duck session. For this apparent strategy, time is indeed short and running out. There was also report that the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) could bring the DREAM Act to the floor as early as this week. This strategy will push and corner Republicans to the "defensive" position in connection with the 2012 Presidential and another national election. For this matter, the Democrats have nothing to lose by pushing for DREAM or CIR during this Lame Duck session while they are in a majority position. Failure to pass the DREAM Act during the Lame Duck session will be placed on the Republicans, which are likely to bring about some Republican casualties and political liabilities in 2012 election. From the perspecitives of the DREAM activists, this is indeed considered a last chance and they are taking an aggressive position to take advantage of such political strategy of the Democrats. I Applied H1b 8th Year Extension on Jan 9th. Still waiting Anybody has this kind of situation? my Case number Starts with WAC
I Applied my H1b extn on Jan 9th , and i went to India on 18th Jan and came back on 18th Feb using my AP is this could be cause for the delay.
Please share your experiences and ideas

I did quick search on this website and notice nothing about infopass experience at Detroit, MI office ( ... I am sure someone smarty pants is going to say I didn't search hard enough), anyway I wanted to share my expereience, so started this thread.
I have apointment tommorow, and will share what happened ( or didn't). If you had been already thru this, please feel free to share pointers.

I had info pass at detroit office last year regarding my EAD application. They were of no help, they called just in few minutes but it was of no help guy was really rude and he did not want to see any documents which i wanted to show him. so it was of no use. than i went to Senator Levin's office and they were of real good help they followed up on my case and i got my approval in couple of days.

I have no idea why USCIS gave that reason. Actually, my company's attorney told that "USCIS denied H1B, because i don't have Computers background and am working as a Programmer Analyst".
That's all i know at this moment. I don't know whom to trust at this point.
There should have been an evaluation of your degree by some "expert" here certifying that your degree is equivalent to a 4-year degree in CS here. I remember my first H1 petition had such an attachment.
Check with your lawyers quickly. Also, do whatever you can to protect your status. If you get some illegal status on your records now, it will be a nightmare when you apply for a GC. Then they will check all your entry/exit dates.

For me, it took around 1.5 months to receive the L2 approval notice. I filed online on 11/17/2009, mailed the hard copies of the documents (USPS Priority with delivery confirmation) the same day and received the L2 approval notice on 01/08/2010.
You can do a concurrent filing for EAD (I-765) along with L2 (I-539). You'd probably receive the EAD in another month (Generally it takes around 2 to 3 months).
I did the mistake of not filing for EAD concurrently. I filed for EAD the second week of Jan (after receiving the L2 approval notice), Received the notice for Biometrics appointment in 3 days, scheduled for mid-February. Unfortunately, the ASC Office was closed that day due to bad weather and I received a re-scheduled biometrics appointment for the 3rd week of March. So, I am yet to do the biometrics and hopefully I'd get the card 2-3 weeks after the biometrics is done if there are no more surprises.
