With all due respect I don't think lottery may be a workable idea. Here's why -
Those who buy lotteries wish to spend least possible amount of money for a chance to win an insanely large sum of money - for e.g. spend $10 to win $10 million. Idea is prize money should make the money spent feel ridiculously low ( it doesn't matter if chances of winning are lower than getting struck by lightning ! ). How can this be worked out in the IV scenario?
2 times the money is less than what people win at a 'Pot luck'!

a) immigrationvoice.com is a tool for the Immigration Voice organization. This website/forum has 10K members, and in any population of 10,000 people, you will get all sorts and kinds of people. There will be no unanimity of views. So, when it doesn't cost to express an opinion, you will get lots of opinions.
As we get more and more members, the number of opinions is only going to increase.
ImmigrationVoice Organization on the other hand, consists of some influential core members who have been working on EB-based issues for more than a year. This organization also has some active state chapters.
I would request you and your like-minded friend not to confuse the organization with the website.
Join the organization. Thats what matters. The website is only a tool.
b) The REAL POWER of this organization will lie in its state chapters. Trust me. If you sit with ten people you know, and talk about these issues, and resolve to do something about the situation, and come up with an action plan and an operating mechanism, that will be where the strength of IV lies.
This forum provides good live information (when there is a senate testimony, or call Senator session's office campaign going on), and sometimes useful information and announcements.
But most of the time, you will get opinions, and comic relief from here.
Friend of mine (to whom I contacted regarding IV) is in USA for 7 years and knows how lobbying & party funds are raised (including Watergate) and also very much aware of "Retrogression" and problems of being "Legal".
Also, he is aware of cause of IV and appreciate that but he is un-comfortable because whenever he login to IV, he noticed that:
- more than 40-50% respondents are talking about money/contributions & signatures showing how much they have contributed as of today,
- 10-15% are talking about blocking non-contributors(calling by Free Lunchers etc..),
- 5 % are Pseudo intellectuals (talking BIG but dont know immigration basics like - PD, issues of I-140/I485)
- 5% are always trying to shutdown others, accusing/calling by names to other forum members (he says "Highly skilled" in accusing!!)
- and remaining are "Positive" contributors for IVs retrogression cause (talking about - I spoke to senators office, can we arrange rallies, when to Fax/fliers, when State chapters are going to meet, posting excerpts from senate/CSPAN/News etc..)
Is our audience is so? Can we focus on our cause? pl be together like.. Like-Minded!!!

i am working on H1B and my wife is on H4, she was not included in 485 yet so she is not having EAD, can i change status from H1B to EAD, please advice.
Let's assume you used EAD and lost H1B status.What will happen to your wife's status?She may loose H4 status because you are no longer in H1B status.I guess it may be better for you to stick with H1B.I may be wrong , take professional help

I received "Notice mailed welcoming the new permanent resident" email this evening(Sunday). The only emotion i feel right now, after being in this country for 9 years now, is relief.
i have an EB2 140 with by current company with jan 2006 priority date.
i tried to port priority date of my EB3 140 with my old company (Sep 2003) and that worked out finally.
initially i sent the letter to port date in march 2009.
I resent the letter to TSC last august. I noticed a LUD on my case after this letter on both 140s.

I think we need to study the bill in detail before we jump to any conclusions.
From reading the summary in the AILA website, specifically the below :
The legislation would reinforce our commitment to families and reduce current wait times in the family immigration system by:
�Recapturing an estimated 400,000 family-sponsored and employment-based visas that went unused between 1992 and 2007.
Atleast to me it seems like the bill plans on using all the unused visas from the past years and apply that towards the family quota. Not sure if that would help the EB cause.
Inputs anyone?

When you call the law makers and tell them you support XYZ bill.. my question is what do you get out of it!
When the lawmaker realizes that he is getting 10000 calls from LEGAL aliens,
>who are not from his constituency,
>who can�t vote and
>who can�t contribute to his election campaign�
what is the motivation for the law maker to support the bill�
So to avoid sounding stupid and foolish and desperate when you call� a more logical approach would be to :
a) Generate a public petition form on IV website and have all the members� login and sign the forms digitally�
b) Then have IV reps.. fax them and send them to lobby groups �.
c) Lawmakers will listen to one talking head�and not worry abt 1000 calls that borders on ..�saar �support the bill saar�..
How many of you have actually talked to the lawmakers? Its always the assistant!
But instead .. someone says we have a signed petition of 25000 members effected by immigration mess �. And it�s a hi tech workers lobby group ..every lawmaker will talk to you and not the assistant!
Conclusion: calling the lawmakers haphazardly is actually hurting IV cause..to a certain extent!

Cool down. Remember we are foreigners in this country. We need this country more than they need us ( as they say, graveyards are full of indispensable people!). A country is not considered advanced by the cell phone models people use, but rather than how much food they produce, what is the standard of living, how many noble laureates it produces per year, etc.
Besides, in my 7-8 years living in this country, first as a student and then as H1 worker, never once have I felt being treated differently because I am a foreigner or look different.
Now compare that to living in Europe (you will be treated as dirt as soon as you enter airport), it is racist, living in past and full of bureaucracy.
As for India, mera bharat mahan, but I remember a time when I had to pay bribe on the train ticket counter to get a measly 2nd class sleeper ticket, or just to get a electric connection, would dare not get near a policeman, etc. etc.. The list is long and I suppose I everyone here knows what I am talking about.
So please ask for your rights but remember you are in their country, nobody forced you to come here, and beggars can't be choosers.
Not for very long. There are bigger, faster markets than US in the world.
A joke, right? Financially maybe, technologically never. Most European countries are far more technologically advanced than US. I'm sure Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore also are all more advanced than US.
For example, only US is still using paper checks to transfer money. Using coins to pay for a phone call in phone booth. Still has no control over who lives in the country, or who goes in and out. Still not using computers for processing immigration applications (Why do I have to send in the same papers 10 times, send in tax papers, give my background info, give fingerprint 10 times.... and this all on paper... come on it is 2007 not 1907). Still drive around in cars instead of having a good inter-city connectivity with trains. No high speed trains. Still likes to see rubber stamps on official papers and believes it has any kind of value.
And so on and on and on.... I could write a book why US is behind most civilized countries. But thats ok. US is what it is.
But the worrying part is; it is going to get even worse when they kick out all the H1B etc who are here legally and provide free knowledge. And instead keeping the uneducated mass of Mexicans or south americans who run across the border illegally and then given amnesty by some fool in Congress. Good luck with that project.

I don't think a Mandamus can be considered until the NC has been pending for a very minimum of a year.
Saying that, in case someday you would be in a situation where you would have no more choice but file a Mandamus complaint, yes you can do it by yourself.
