I wonder how much power these committees have. It is clear from her letter that DOS/DHS chose not to respond to her or send her any info and defy her request to continue accepting AOS applications until she had a chance to review the matter closely. Committee has the subpoena power to force the document release and hold hearing but if DOS/DHS ignore her letter again, I wonder what would she do.
I guess the deadline is tomorrow so we'll see how this unfolds.

It might have been answered before elsewhere, but I'm wondering about the logic on how the spillover visas are allocated. Would have been nice if the spillover visas are allocated to oversubscribed countries instead of categories, this way 10k spillover visas that EB2-I is getting now will be distributed equally between EB2 and EB3 ... I believe that's one thing IV is going to or has taken up.
Looks like parents did a good job of taking both the sick kids to hospital, but the doctor treated only one kid saying that the second untreated kid is not good as the one getting the treatment :D ... if the 2nd kid survives thru the period of time the 1st kid recovers without any treatment, then the 2nd kid will get the treatment.

I for one would like to know exactly what IV is planning to take up for the cause of EB3 before contributing.

You cannot file for I-485. You can file I-485 only if you are present in United States. Since, you are living in Toronto, Canada, you have to appear for consular visa processing. This process is different than the process (I-485) for people who are on temporary visas in US and their PD has become current.

Finaly received the 1-year renewal EADs today. This time there was no "approval notice sent" email/LUD.
albertpinto and other folks who filed in April/May and still waiting...hang in there, you all should be receiving your cards soon. If you haven't already, try filing an SR by calling NCSC. this is what i found on the page following your link
At first i thought there was no state chapter for California. Only after searching the page for the word "california" did i find the ones for Southern California and Northern California
which are not states but just different parts of California.
Was i supposed to magically just guess that it is listed this way...or am i a moron who just does not understand this simple thing?

I'm all for this. This is very close to my heart. I probably care more about this than I do, my 485 approval.(can't have one without the other, I know I know. But still.).
I don't know when I'll get my 485 approved, hopefully within the next year. But I'm willing to work on this, whatever it takes - contributions, lawmaker meetings, DC.

This has got to be simple too. When the citizenship law was first drafted, immigrants got their green cards within months of entering the country. Start to End of the greencard process took under a year, if not less.
The intention of the law was to have them learn the language, the ways of the country, and assimilate, which was expected to take about 5 years, before applying for citizenship.
These days the green card process itself take over 5 years for a lot of people. Most Indians and Chinese in the EB2 category, and pretty much the entire EB3 category have lived here longer than 5 years. In those 5 years they have gone to school here, paid income taxes, bought homes, and learned the language (well they had to, in order to qualify for an employment based green card!). What more "assimilation" do they need to do?
I definitely think that the following should be the criteria for eligibility to apply for citizenship,
- An approved green card
- 5 years of continuous U.S. residence starting from the date the 485 application was received.
Let's do this.

Has anyone started fundraising yet??. I did not. I need to work on recruiting 6 more people atleast into Team IV. We should have 50 people for the Cal. Event atleast. I need to work on the networking events as well
I have started my fundraising, but that is only because I have all the fundraising ideas in my head.
I will start sending out the Welcome Packages this week. The Welcome Package has a section for Fundraising and will help each Team IV Member reach his/her goal.
The first T Shirt order has also been placed, last week, I believe. I should be receiving this initial order by mail shortly and then I can mail out the T Shirts to those who have signed up thus far.

Of course the plan is not to imitate what Canada has directly, I'm sure the current job offer would have a big role, it does in canada too to a certain extent.
Also the EB queue needs to be considered while moving to the skill based one.

Hello All,
I found a unique way to cope with the stress of our immigration nightmare.
I always feared that this long wait to get the status issue settled would kill the entrepreneurial spirit that I have. The burning desire to do my own thing.
I have been trading stocks for the past 4 years or so now but just recently got interested in PDT - Pattern Day Trading (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pattern_day_trader) (Clickable)
I have found it very interesting as well as rewarding in terms of fulfilling the urge to do something more than what I am doing right now.
It is not easy and it is not for the weak hearted but the rewards are wholesome and tremendous.
I would like people who are interested to "PM" me or post replies here so we can exchange ideas
IMP NOTE: Trading stocks is a type of investment so It is perfectly legal to do so. You do not even require an EAD to do so .
No doubt that if you do have EAD you can trade as business entity as well.
Last but not the least
Do not forget to to keep the momentum up at IV and do donate to IV as often as you can .

I was under impression that being on H1b u cannot do intra day trading.. you can do only routine trading ( dont know excat term ) in which u buy stock and keep it for some time and sell it .. generally 3-4 days..

Pappu, I really lost my interest in this. After waiting for so long, I have come to a state where I find this to be not worth it anymore. I don't want to continue with this uncertainity any longer and my children are growing up and I want to move on in my life. Negotiating a good job offer for a good position. Its not that I am going to get my GC in 6 months or let alone in 2 years with a total of more than 8000 people ahead of me. So, I am looking at a minimum of 2 years wait and I do not think its worth waiting any longer. Getting a GC in 3-5 years seems tobe a OK wait, but more than 7 years, I want to use my time in something else more precious. Did not mean to hijack the purpose of this thread, just wrote it because you asked that question.

Illegals have nothing to lose. If CIR happens...they celebrate, now that they can all be legal and apply for their families to follow them
If CIR does not happen...they still continue to live here, work their jobs, keep sending money home, and try and get their relatives over here by paying the "coyotes"...it makes no difference to them.
Even if these guys are legalised, they will still NOT pay taxes, NOT learn english, NOT try and be upstanding residents.
WE (EB) have none of the above and a lot to lose)

I do not have a GC which means my entry in US is not guaranteed the next time I visit my home country. Period. The risk is simply not worth taking. Congrats to those for whom it worked out. You are far and few people.
I recently had the taste of this experience when my wife got 221(g) at Mumbai Consulate and had to enter using AP. Imagine if she did not have an AP and if we had a home what would we do?
Today in this scenario we can atleast sell everything we have and cash out of US. The stakes and dependency gets higher if we own a house. I would advise anyone against "investing" money in US when you dont have a GC.
I bought a property in India in the meantime and the value has doubled and I am pretty happy about it.

iCERT portal says they are processing regular cases as of Oct 2009 i.e. 10 months........I thought it took 7 months these days.
