sorry...but her stuff is light years ahead of that old outdated sound.

I'm not sure you can say that without being able to bite your own ear.

Go ahead, bite your own ear.

    I'll wait.

    I'll bet you tried it

Here's mine for today, by trade I'm a food photographer but I'm branching out to newer subjects. My best friend and possible business partner is an architecture photographer so we are mixing our loves.

    Parabns Brasil. Mais crescimento financeiro.

Not only good for Brazil, it's good for anyone buying electronics made by Foxconn and a good trend.

Manufacturing needs to re-globalize. China has taken on too much. Brazil and India need to get in the game and compete.

And remember -- US Companies are the primary people using these services. Microsoft would not have succeeded at X-Box, and Apple wouldn't have hit the price points for iPod/iPhone/iPad with out this type of off-shore low cost assembly business.

Basically, it's not a zero sum game. Wealth is being created all along the production chain.

When there is a big bug that sneaks into the application but isn't caught before the release of the app. You discover it after several people complain (and several in FB terms is probably thousands) but you can fix the problem in an hour. But then you need to wait 2-3 weeks for the application to be approved by apple. In the mean time you can't do jack **** because the app store is completely controlled by Apple.

Somehow this logic only makes me think that 'complete control' by Apple is a good thing. Something with as many users as FB warrants thorough testing prior to springing it on unsuspecting users. Just because of open source and 'free testing services' provided by the general public (ala Vista) doesn't really justify a lack of internal QA.

I guess now that Apple helped break down the practices of the carriers totally controlling and locking down crippled phones they suddenly are the bad guy.

Not saying their process is perfect, and I think some 'drama' around it will help it evolve - but - the fact that many developers don't bother to test their apps is one part of why the approval process exists.

I don't like the Microsoft bashing either...it's just something that gets to me. Microsoft bashing is a waste of energy. Who cares what company did what first, as a consumer I don't care about originality. Just give me something that works. Whatever company can implement the idea the best to provide a benefit to ME, gets my business. Just shut up and innovate (like Apple has been doing), the products will speak for themselves.

I agree totally. If anything all the bashing makes Apple (and its fans) seem insecure. Just deliver the goods and let the marketshare speak for itself. (Plus the mightier-than-thou attitude alienates PC users and makes them think twice about joining "the cult".)

We're going to get a video nano... and then a month or two later a true video ipod.

It's the standard apple jive... realease one that we want and then another that we want more.

I will make a prediction right now that we'll never see a video nano. The screen is just too small. It might make an interesting curiosity, but not a viable product, IMO. The iPod video now is difficult enough. Of course, I'm rarely right on anything. :)

I'll stick with my 5G video iPod until a widescreen iteration of the product becomes available next year or so.

OH good lord what a crock of poo. How can Wal Mart threaten Hollywood studios? What will Wal Mart do, stop selling DVDs and hurt its own retail business? Silly.

I don't believe any of it.

Their response to movies on iTunes was to ask studios to lower their price to WM to be the same as that of an online download despite the higher media and distribtion cost. Huh? Yes, they did. Keep in mind the online version is qualatatively different in packaging and resolution, and that many folks find added value in the artifact of a physical disc.

Wal-Mart wanted to guarantee --their-- ability to underprice the competition at the expense of the net cost of studios. WM wanted studios to SUBSIDIZE them at the rate of $1.50-$2.50 PER DISC!!

I for one wouldn't want to download the phone call between Apple and Wal-Mart. I want to see a movie of Jobs right after he hung up :)

Come on Steve, as an ode to rumour sites . . .

Maybe they're waiting for HSPA+ to become more widespread. As it stands, only a few major cities have the expanded backhaul
That's just the U.S. and specifically AT&T lagging.

The rest of the world has built out their HSPA+ networks and many of them have upgraded speeds a couple of times.

he clear implication of this is that we need to act under licence from your chief god in order not to be "self-glorifying", which is patent nonsense. This differentiation between human altruism and divinely-sanctioned altruism is nothing but artifice: what is the real difference?

Thanks for clarifying, now I better understand what you are getting at and what you are asking. I would say that it's not a matter of being "licensed to act" as much as it's a recognition of your relationship to God and the rest of his creation. We don't need God's permission to act, that is what free will is all about. However, your understanding of how the world works and your motivation for action is either rooted in your faith in God or your faith in what is man made, which could include faith in religious tradition, or faith in principles/morals/ethics.

Basically, what we are talking about is an individual's worldview and how that worldview impacts their motivations in life.

    2 things

First, It's understandable to complain about the lack of EDU discounts on the new upods. Apple has ALWAYS given an edu discount... even for new products. To take that away now stinks.

Second, though these nanos look nice, I'm a little wary about the screen. If anyone remembers way back, that Apple is going to be using OLED technology instead of the normal screen.
    here's the original rumor article:
    http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/07/20060712182701.shtml

    For those lazy, I'll quote
OLED displays draw significantly less power than traditional TFT-LCD displays used in current iPod models, as they do not require a backlight (each pixel directly emits its own light). OLED contrast ratio's are generally considered far superior to LCD displays because the pixels can display true black when off. However, OLEDs are not well suited for outdoor use, and have a limited lifespan.

While I'm happy that this is probably the reason for the increased battery life, I'm concerned about the life span of the screen. How much of a limited span are we talking about?

Edit: according to wikipedia, 5,000 hrs. For comparison, a typical LCD has a life of 50,000 hrs (30,000 hrs for lamp).

No kidding. So much for the "everyone already owns all The Beatles songs they want" mantra. ;)

The iTunes stuff is very good quality. I went and bought several tunes that I didn't have from the re-mastered stuff.

lady bla bla has some talent. you have to have some to get admitted to juliard and NYU. even madonna had a good musical education before she hit the clubs in the 1980's

if you haven't seen this yet, it's lady bla bla a year or so before she hit it big

Ga ga seems to be more , much more, talented that Madonna though. Madonna = tone def.

The Beatles: Four guys who needed each other, because individually they were musical infants.

    No, thanks.

The single worst summation of The Beatles. Ever. You don't deserve to hear them.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

    I thought no one cared...

I posted this on the Decemberists forum and it also got mixed reviews.

Although I have most of their stuff, from first CD's released in '87, I don't have all the re-masters recently issued. Like I said above it is nice to be able to click and shop if need be. ;)

Glad to hear your OK Corvus.:)

(that's not to say I don't have sympathy for those that didn't fare so well)

Corvus, glad to hear you, your wife and the cats are ok. I'm sure it must have been terrifying.

    Glad your MBP survived too!

So we don't derail this thread (which I plan on getting back to once we've got everything cleaned up around here), I'd like to direct everyone to this thread instead (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1144068).

Here's a work around maybe. Under Systems Preferences > Network > Airport

Click on Configure and then Options...

I wonder if this is a specific to X86 hardware... Does this effect ppc based hardware?

Oh, probably should ask for admin psswd to change networks as well...

The issue is, the computer will automatically connect to a spoofed wireless network. Meaning, they can grab the SSIDs you've ever connected to in your preferred networks list right out from the air, as both OSX and XP broadcast such information. If they find an open network, they can broadcast on their computer as an Access Point with that SSID. A lot of people don't seem to understand this. Theoretically, you could be working on your computer at a non-wifi airport and someone else can come in, see your SSIDs being broadcast by your card, and create a faux wireless network with that access point name. This type of attack has been known for a VERY long time though, I'm surprised this has just come out as soon as it did.

So I could buy photoshop... and use it WHEN I need to for $35 a month? Like I could buy it, use it only once and only pay $35? that's pretty cool.

blah, I don't want to chew through my data plan, and wait for the update to download with over the air updates.
I'd be happy if I could just do them over my own WiFi... and sync over WiFi while I'm at it.

Ultimate usage of my Apple stuff: iPad as excellent calculator during making my homework for math, in a perfect viewing angle thanks the Apple iPad case (I own since today, excellent case). MBP used as music player for the relaxing during making homework thanks to iTunes. iPhone used as camera. Love my Apple stuff!

iPad as an excellent calculator? Only if you're doing 4th, 5th, 6th grade maths and even so, shame on you. Ho there's spacetime and pocket cas, well they're crap.

    *Facepalm*

    Want a real calculator?
    Install matlab/mathematica on your laptop.

    Oh the iPad...
    Well trow it away.

I don't know, citizenzen. Tell me: would it have helped the United States to have some country intervene the outcome in our civil war?

I don't think it would have.

I think that (for the most part) nations need to work out these struggles for themselves.
